Percentages Of V.K.

(N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) WEST BERLIN, May 9. England is an island between the North Sea and the Atlantic, made up of 70 per cent fog, 20 per cent whisky, and 10 per cent men with bowler hats, a West Berliner. Kurt Harder, wrote in his 200word essay about England, which won him first prize in this year’s 8.8. C. German language programme competition. Mr Harder, an architect, has not visited Britain. Mr Harder’s essay said: “At the head of this nation is a Queen, which rules while her husband plays polo. Everyone else plays golf. “Otherwise, the country is ruled by Lords, sitting in a little Upper House. In a little Lower House some others are sitting. “England also had a Sir Winston Churchill, a fact that not many other countries can claim for themselves. . . .

“If the English quarrel, they go to Hyde Park or they bet. If the loser is Scots, the other one has bad bad luck.”
