Change Of Dates
“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. The decision of the Oamaru Jockey Club to drop its New Year date and race during the winter, will give much relief to Otago. South Canterbury and Southland clubs, racing during this period.
From the time of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s cup meeting at the end of December, until the Vincent Jockey Club’s fixture in mid-January there have previously been 12 meetings in three weeks.
The proximity of the dates and the usual hard tracks at this time of the year, have taken a heavy toll of South Island horses. Most of the clubs have suffered with depleted fields.
