MUSICAL ROLE
Wellington. Actress
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, May 10. The Wellington actress, Vivienne Martin, recognised as one of Britain’s leading musical comediennes, is to star in a new musical “The Ballad of Queenie Swan” which opens at Guildford on May 30. The show, which Miss Martin describes as having “great potential,” will run at Guildford for three weeks before its West End opening. It is directed by Arthur Lewis and written by the television scriptwriter, Ted Wilson. Other stars in the cast include Bill Owen and Kenneth Colson.
In the musical, written in verse, Miss Martin plays "Queenie Swan”, a widow on the brink of the marriage market.
Miss Martin, who arrived in Britain on a Government bursary in the early 19505, has appeared in a series of musicals, including “The Matchgirls” and “Joey Joey”, all of of which closed after short runs. Miss Martin hopes “Queenie Swan” will maintain enough interest to enjoy a long run.
