Rubbish Fires
Sir, —Sunday bonfires are a tradition of Christchurch. The council would have to arrange collection of garden waste if it decided to stop this source of air pollution. It must be remembered that voters did not support the extension of rubbish collection to include bulky items when they had the opportunity at the last council election. The time sequence would need some thought, but this should not be too difficult. Authorities are generally slow in starting decisive clean-air programmes. Informed public opinion will provide the motivating force and by attending the Clean A'r Society meeting on May 11, the public can show their concern over the situation.—Yours, etC ” PATRICK NEARY.
