CHILDREN’S THEATRE

Play During Holidays

A play, "The Dancing Shoes,” will be presented during the May holidays by the Canterbury Children’s Theatre at the Hagley High School hall.

The play, which was especially written for the Canterbury Children’s Theatre by Harold Pointer, who is also the producer, is based on “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” The story has been brought up to date. The witch “Familiar,” instead of being a black cat or an owl, is a computer, “Cobalt II.” “The Dancing Shoes” has been designed for a small theatre and a smaller cast than some of the theatre’s earlier productions, such as the “Wizard of Oz,” staged last August. There are 11 speaking parts. The music for the songs has been composed by Noeline Law and the dances have been arranged by Doreen Herbert. The wardrobe was designed by Joy de Thier and Jill Richardson. The season opens on Saturday, May 13, and continues until May 20.
