GIPSY MOTH FLIGHT
Two To Meet Chichester (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, May 9. Two businessmen from St Ives, Cornwall, will fly out to sea in a Gipsy Moth biplane to welcome Sir Francis Chichester when he arrives off Plymouth in Gipsy Moth IV.
The two men, who found the 34-year-old biplane in a barn and repaired it are Mr Roger Everdell, a 34-year-old farmer, and a garage man, and Mr Harry Morris, aged 48, who was a Royal Air Force pilot at 17.
The aircraft is a similar model to that used by Sir Francis—then plain Mr— Chichester, when he flew to New Zealand and Howe Island in the 19305. What made them decide to fly out to see Sir Francis Chichester?
“When we had got It airworthy again, we felt we ought to do something special,” said Mr Morris.
With Drake’s Sword.—Sir Francis Chichester will be knighted on his return from his epic single-handed voyage around the world with a sword that belonged to Britain’s most famous mariner. Sir Francis Drake.—London, May 9,
