Winfreux At Caulfield (Special Cnpdt. N.ZP.A.) MELBOURNE. Winfreux gave notice that he would again be a serious contender for honours in the rich winter events in Brisbane, when he ran away with the South Yarra Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday. Winfreux carried 9-9, 91b more than weight-for age, to a one length and a quarter victory over King Star (8-1), with Slwai (5/1) one length and a half away third. It was the first win since last October’s Caulfield Stakes for Winfreux. which started at 8/1. He covered the six furlongs in the excellent time of Imin 10.3 sec. on a rain-affected track. Winfreux will leave for Brisbane next week for his third tilt at the big Queensland events. He won the Strsdbroke Handl-cap-Doomben Ten Thousand double in 1965, and last year won the Doomben Cup in record time.
