PRIVATE TAXI
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 8. One person took advantage of the rail strike today and used a big station waggon to run a service between the Lower Hutt railway station and Wellington, charging his passengers 2s a head, instead of the suggested Is.
This was reported by the managing-director of the Petone and Lower Hutt City Taxis Ltd., Mr J. R. Wilkinson.
He said he believed the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) had never intended to allow that sort of thing when he relaxed the licensing regulations to permit private motorists to carry passengers during the strike.
Mr Wilkinson said he would protest to the appropriate authorities.
