CAR DRIVER RESCUED
Vehicle Runs Into River A youth escaped unhurt when his car ran into the Heathcote river near the Bowenvale avenue bridge about 9 p.m. yesterday. The youth, Roger Genet, of 229 Waimea terrace, driving east along Centaurus road, turned left on to the Bowenvale avenue bridge, and left again into Waimea terrace, but the car continued its turn and ran into the river. The car turned over, only the wheels and the bottom of the chassis showing. The fabric roof collapsed, and Mr Genet was trapped inside the car. Three of his friends who had been following in another vehicle saw the car go into the river, and jumped in and pulled Mr Genet from beneath his car.
Tow waggons took about an hour to drag the car from the river.
