Found Guilty Of Attempted Rape
After a retirement of 25 minutes, a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday returned a verdict of guilty against Ben Pentuia Kingi, aged 24, a plasterer, on a charge of the attempted rape of a woman who had been lying unconscious on the back seat of a van after being knocked out by her own husband. The incident had occurred after the woman, her husband, and King! had been attending a party in Pacific street, New Brighton, on January 3. Kingi, defended by Mr R. G. Blunt, had pleaded not guilty, but on the jury’s verdict against him was remanded by Mr Justice Wilson, in custody, for sentence on May 12.
