School Committee Inquiry Sought

Concerned at the lack of parental interest in the recent school committee elections, the Auckland Education Board has asked for a major investigation into the committee system.
The inquiry is proposed in a remit to the national annual conference in- September of the Education Boards’ Association. It recommends that an investigation committee be set up, including representatives from the Federation of School Committees and the Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations.
The Auckland board has put forward four points for investigation:— The functions, powers and
responsibilities of school committees and the possibility of extending them. The method of electing committees, including eligibility, nominations and voting procedure. The respective role* ef the school committee and the parent-teacher association, and the question of amalgamation. Ways of attracting greater parental interest in school committee wort.
