Sharp Rises Throughout

The fee for registering the change of ownership of motor vehicles went up 400 per cent in the Government’s new economic measures announced on Thursday night. The fee is now £2 10s, compared with 10s previously. There are increases of between 25 and 100 per cent on relicensing fees. For motor cars the fee is now £5 compared with £3; for light trailers £3 (£1 10s); motor cycles £3 (£2); power cycles £2 (£1); buses and heavy trailers £5 (4). There are also insurance charges which are controlled by insurance companies. To relicense a motor car will in future cost the motorist £9 10s providing insurance fees are not increased. This is made up of £5 for the licence, £4 12s 6d for insurance and 6d for the sticker.

Hedge Damaged.—A 12ft hedge, on the property of Mr E. Thorne, 99 Nayland street, Sumner, was damaged by fire yesterday. Sumner and Woolston firemen put out the fire. The call was received at 6.18 pm.
