POST IN MOSCOW
Study By Chamber
“I feel there Is prejudice because it involves the U.S.S.R,” said Mr L. A. Hol- ' land at the monthly meeting . of the council of the Canter- • bury Chamber of Commerce last evening. He said he was referring to an initial lack of interest by council members in a letter from the Christchurch branch of the NJS.-U.S.S.R. Society saying it was deeply concerned at New Zealand's lack of representation in Moscow. Mr Holland said that he thought the chamber's trade promotion committee should have an unbiased look at the matter. The chairman of the committee (Mr M. L. Newman) agreed with this. The letter from the society said that it was also concerned at the slow growth of trade between New Zealand and the Soviet Union. The Soviet maintained a legation in Wellington and had done so since the Second World War. New Zealand had not had any sort of representation in Moscow since 1950, which could not be considered satisfactory.
The council referred the letter to the trade promotion committee.
