AUTOMATIC ALARMS

Fire Safety Move Urged (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, May 2. The Government would seriously consider a recommendation that all multistorey hotels, boarding houses and apartment buildings with more than 10 bedrooms at ground-floor level, and singlestorey buildings with more than 30 bedrooms, should be required to have automatic fire alarm systems, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said in New Plymouth today. A committee of the Fire Authorities Association also recommended the owners or occupiers of all buildings accommodating large numbers should be required to provide evacuation schemes and drills.
