Pumps For Philippines

Twenty deep-well water pumps, made in Christchurch, will be shipped this week to the Philippines. The shipment is worth more than £lOOO.

The pumps were made by W. H. Price and Son, Ltd. The cost of imported ma- . terials is less than 3 per cent - of the value of the product. The shipment, said the company’s managing director (Mr W. H. Price) was the second one of this size this year. “We are getting to the stage of a regular export trade,” said Mr Price.

Mr Price made two trips to the Philippines to look for new markets. He said that, also as a result of his overseas trips, his company was now exporting to Malaya, and had realistic hopes of developing a new business in selling petrol and oil pumps to Hong Kong. To further goodwill between New Zealand and the Philippines, Mr Price is providing technical experience to a technical teacher from the Koronadal High School in the Philippines (Mr P. H. Detoyato), who is shown in the photograph above. Mr Detoyato is spending two weeks at Price’s plant, studying manufacturing tech-

niques, including foundry work. He comes from the South Cotabato Province, in the island Mindanao, in the southern Philippines. Mr Detoyato is in Christchurch to attend a course in technology training at the Christchurch Technical Institute.
