Wilson Questioned About C.I.A.
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, April 19. The Prime Minister, Mr Harold Wilson, told Parliament yesterday he knew of no present subversive activities in Brit-ish-administered territories by the United States Central Intelligence Agency. Several Labour Party Leftwingers had questioned him about reports that American intelligence bodies had tried to influence and infiltrate organisations in British-admin-istered territories to subvert law and order. One of them, Mr Michael Foot, urged an inquiry into whether it was true that United States interests had intervened to overturn the British Guiana Government before independence. “We would tell the United States Government quite clearly that we do not want the C.I.A. interfering in our affairs,” he said. Mr Wilson replied: “It is not for me to comment on the press stories which you have obviously read.” The present Government
had no responsibility for the colony at the time, he said.
“So far as British-adminis-tered territories now are concerned, I know of no activities of this kind,” he said.
