DOWNWARD DRIFT IN MORE ACTIVE MARKET
The market drifted downward in more active trading on the New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. The range of issues also widened, but fewer Australian shares changed hands.
The overseas list was in balance, but had larger fluctuations than the New Zealand section, where price movements were narrow.
Colonial Sugar gained 9d to 275, and Woolworths rose 3d to Ils 3d, but Ampol
eased Id to 5s 5d and A.N.Z. Bank lost 6d to 51s 6d. The largest rise in the New Zealand list was by Rheem, 6d dearer at 15s 9d. Rises of 3d each were chalked up by Alliance Textiles, at 9s, Neill Cropper, at 22s 6d, and N.Z. Refining at 45s 3d. Associated British Cables added another 3d to reach 20s
again, and New Zealand Insurance were Id firmer at 23s 7d. Dominion Breweries lost 3d to 15s, Tasman Pulp and Paper were 3d cheaper at 47s 6d, Fletcher were 2d down to 15s, and Rothmans rights and Wright Stephenson sold Id lower to 9s 8d and 13s 5d respectively.
