FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone in the Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards. A south-westerly airstream preceding the anti-cyclone covers New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast.—Moderate variable winds except for westerlies freshening at times in some inland areas; fine weather; moderate day temperatures. Marlborough. Fresh north-westerlies; some cloudy areas at first but weather otherwise fine; mild in the afternoon. Nelson.—South-westerlies freshening at times; strong in some exposed places; mainly fine with mild afternoon temperatures but a few showers on the western ranges. Buller and Westland.—South-westerlies freshening; light rain at first, later, variable skies with a few scattered showers; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: A few scattered showers in the west; mainly fine elsewhere. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
