Close Finishes In Club Yacht Titles
There was some excellent racing on the Christchurch club’s low tide course on Saturday, when the third heat of the club class championships were sailed. With a gentle easterly just having enough strength to make the crews work, there were some Interesting results and very close finishes. Giavelina (W. H. Beere and S. Dinmore) won the Javelins as expected, but only by a modest 24sec after having more than a minute’s lead earlier In the race. Similarly in the R class, Naiad (J. Snelgrove and J. Collingwood) led Unique by IJmin 15sec half-way through the race, but Unique’s new owner, B. Kiteon, reduced the margin to llsec at the finish. The best finish was in the P class, where N. England just took line honours by 7sec from the B division’s P. Stemmer, who sailed a magnificent race, with P. Lester only 4sec further back. Community Craft.—Enrolments in the Risingholme Community Centre, particularly in craft classes has brought total membership to 472. Fifty persons are waiting for admission to the pottery, dressmaking and wood sculpture groups. A new craft, spinning, has been added this year and 25 women have enrolled for the eight-week course.
