Machine Tool Exhibition
The first international machine tool exhibition in New Zealand’s history would be held in Canterbury Court, Christchurch, for about two to three weeks in September, 1968, said the chairman of the Canterbury Manufacturing Engineers’ and Metal Trades’ Association (Mr A. S. Farrar).
We are hoping to get entries from all European countries, the United States, Britain and Australia, and also from some local manufacturers,” he said. “ft is hoped countries that will display will send out technicians and operators.” The machine tools to be exhibited, said Mr Farrar, would be of the type that could be sold and used in New Zealand..
Nothing over-sophisticated that would not sell in New Zealand was wanted.
A committee to organise and run the international exhibition would be formed at a meeting next week, said Mr Farrar. The committee would be composed of metal trades people, machine tool people and members of the Department of Industries and Commerce.
This week Mr Farrar had talks with the Assistant Secretary of the Department (Mr J. P. Lewin) in Christchurch about the proposed exhibition.
Tractor Rolled. Cedric Earl Macadam, of “The Mound,” R.M.D. 3, Amberley, suffered moderately serious head injuries when a tractor rolled over on Wednesday. He was admitted to Christchurch Hospital.
