MYSTERY EPIDEMIC

(N.Z. Press Ann.—Copyright! RABAUL (New Britain), April 10. A medical specialist from Port Moresby will arrive in Rabaul later today to help with an epidemic of a mystery type of gastro-enteritis sweeping villages in the area.

The specialist, Dr. John Bidulph, a pediatrician, will visit Nonga base hospital and Vunapope Roman Catholic mission hospital. The regional medical officer for the New Guinea islands, Dr. Paul Enders, said 15 new eases had been admitted to Nonga and five new cases at Vunapope. So far the death toll is 24 from 150 cases treated. Babies between six months and a year old, were victims of a virus which is a bacterial form of gastro-enteritis

unlike the usual form of the disease, Dr. Enders said.
