PONY CLUB NEWS Hiding and instructor courses run by the Christchurch Pony Club will be held during April and May at the Yaldhurst field. All courses will be instructed by the two English instructors now residing in Rotorua, Miss E. KnoxThompson and Miss S. Dickens. The first course is for preliminary instructors and will be held on April 15, 16, 22 and 23. The second course for intermediate grade instructors will be held on April 17,18,19 and 20. From April 10 to 13 inclusive there will be four instruction courses for children, Including one course for the Pony Club championship competitors. A CERTIFICATES This year six local pony club members will be examined for their A certificates. The examination will take place on May 3 at Mr H. E. Richardson's property, Old West Coast road. Those to be examined are Misses V. Todd, F. Logan, A. CameronSmith, S. Walter, S. Mahon and R. Cunningham.
The examination will be in three sections, riding—including general riding, dressage, jumping and riding a young horse—horsemanship, which will cover grooming, clipping and trimming, bitting, shoeing and minor ailments, feeding and stabling, and general impression. Miss Knox-Thompson and Miss Dickens will conduct the examinations. ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Christchurch Pony Club will be held at St Peter’s New Church Hall, Upper Riccarton, at 8 p.m, on April 12. HALSWELL PONY CLUB The Halswell Pony Club’s one-day event will be held at McDury’s Farm. Old Tai Tapu road, on April 23. Entries for this event close on next Wednesday. There are four classes, one for children under 15 years, 15 and under 17 yean, 17 and under 20 yean and 20 years and over. HORSE SOCIETY The first practice day will be held on April 15 at Yaldhurst This will take the form of a schooling day with competitions at the end of the schooling. It is hoped that all jumping enthusiasts will take advantage of these days and gain some valuable experience from them. The dressage judges discussion day will be held
on April 25 at Yaldhurst by Miss Knox-Thompson. All judges will be required to judge a number of tests and then discuss their marks and give reasons for their marks. These days are a tremendous help to all judges and help to give a more even standard of judging. The junior committee of the Horse Society held its annual meeting recently. The new committee is: president, Mr L Bell; vice-president. Miss B. Lemon; secretary, Miss D. Sandford; committee, Mesdames L. Scotter and A. Sampson, Misses H. Crowther, C. Bennett, A. Baxter, D. Reid, H. Kendal, J. Richardson, G. Inglis and J. Inglis; Messrs W. Rutherford, G. Thompson and D. Collins. The first event on the committee’s programme is the Otahuna Horse Trials on April 30.
JURINAK COURSE Mr Karl Jurinak will be holding three courses from April 15 to 21, two jumping courses from 9.30 a.m.11 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.-l p.m. and a dressage course from 2.30 p.m.-4 p.m. Some courses are not completely filled and a late entry may be accepted by the secretary.
EASTER SHOW After much hard work and endeavour by the princesses to raise funds, the Horse Society’s Queen was announced at the Easter show. Miss Shirley Mahon, of the Northern District, raised the most money and gained the title of Queen. The runner-up was Miss Mary-Anne Beynon, of Central Area. The other areas were represented by Miss Gail Inglis (Eastern) and Miss Jenny Richardson (Western). The accumulated funds amounted to £1350, a fine achievement
