GREECE SEEKS NEW GOVT
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ATHENS, March 31. King Constantine of Greece today called the former Prime Minister, Mr George Papandreou, to the Royal Palace, after the collapse of Greece’s fifth Government in two years. The three-month-old caretaker Government of Mr loannis Paraskevopoulos was forced out of office last night by a threat from the National Radical Union, one of the two main parties, to withdraw its support It objected to an attempt by Mr Papandreou’s Centre Union to extend Parliamentary immunity until May 29, the day after the proposed General Elections. King Constantine’s decision to send for Mr Papandreou at noon today indicated that he intended to hold the traditional round of talks with political leaders and would not take bis other alternative action of dissolving Parliament, causing a General Election.
One effect of the crisis has been that the country’s 20,000
doctors, dentists and chemists decided that because of the situation they would end a national strike which began on Monday. They have been demanding an improvement in their status.
