CRAYFISH INDUSTRY
Methods To Be Studied (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 31. A committee of five men will leave this week-end for the Houtman Abrolhos Island, off Western Australia, to study the latest methods of crayfish handling. A spokesman for the Fishing Industry Board said today that the committee would spend 10 days studying packaging, processing and handling methods used by the Western Australian industry, which is widely regarded as a leader in its field.
New Zealand’s crayfish exports were now worth more than £2 million a year, he said.
The major market, the United States, was becoming increasingly selective, leading the board to extend its study of the crayfishing industry.
