C.W.I. ACTIVITIES
Many branches of the Canterbury Federation of Country Women's Institutes held their annual meetings recently. Clentunnel Mrs R. Hudson presided and welcomed the voluntary organiser, Mrs J. Knight. Officers elected were: President, Mrs R. Hudson; vice-president, Mrs T. Blair; secretary, Mrs J. Marsh; treasurer, Mrs G. D. Marsh; committee, Mesdames T. Beattie, G. Chapman, F. Smith and G. MacLachlan was the voluntary organiser, and Mrs E. McKenzie represented the federation. Officers elected were:—President, Mrs W. Kime; vicepresidents, Mesdames E. J. Melhuish, C. Stevens; secretary, Mrs J. R. Taylor; committee, Mesdames E. Coleman, C. Clarke, J. Dodd, E. Law, H. Litolfl, D. Leslie, E. J. Melhuish, C. Richards. C. Stevens, J. R. Taylor, Miss E. Willetts. Competition winners: Mesdames A. Rofe, W. H. Kime, J. Leask, D. Leslie, E. Coleman, E. Webster, Misses A. Ormandy, E. Talbot. North Beach Mrs A McAllister, a vicepresident, presided. Mrs M. McDiarmin was the voluntary organiser, and Mrs E. J. Melhuish the federation representative. A talk on institute matters was given by Mrs McDiarmin, who f (resented the trophies as folows:—McKecknie Cup, Mrs R. McKechnie, Irvine Cup, Mrs R. McKechnie: Pat Henderson trophy for cooking, Mrs A. McAllister; Rose Cooks trophy for mumber with most entries not gaining a place, Mrs M. Roscoe.
South Brighton
The institute had accepted a new link with the Country Women's Association of the Air in Australia, whose members met through the Flying Doctor radio service. A South Brighton member will write to the link every month. Officers elected were:—President, Mrs L. J. Dlxey; secretary, Mrs W. McDowall; treasurer, Mrs D. Griffiths; committee, Mesdames J. Evans; gardening, Mrs J. Beumbelburg, Miss M. Smith; single bloom, Mrs A. Griffiths; Aggregate Points Cup, Miss M. Smith. Sumner Officers elected were:—President, Mrs E. E. Glen; secretary, Mrs P. M.
