TARIFF TALKS

Mr Press In Geneva

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, March 29. New Zealand’s Assistant Secretary of Industries and Commerce (Overseas Trade), Mr K. L. Press, has flown to Geneva to lead the New Zealand delegation as the Kennedy round tariffcutting negotiations move into the final, crucial weeks. A new series of top-level meetings begin today, and the widely - recognised expertise of Mr Press on GA.T.T. affairs will strengthen the New Zealand team. After four years of hard bargaining, the negotiators are pressing to reach an agreement by May 1, and plenty of “crises” are anticipated between now and then. A Ministerial meeting towards the end of April, in order to effect quick decisions, is not being ruled out. In this circumstance New Zealand may find its Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) travelling to Geneva at short notice.
