Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Supplies of most vegetables I were plentiful at Christchurch fruit and produce markets yesterday, although potatoes were I not as readily available as at the same time last year. At 10s to 13s a sack, prices for potatoes remained firm. Cauliflowers sold more cheaply at 4s to 7s a case, but prices for carrots were higher than last week at 15s to 32s a case. Fruit supplies were more plentiful than earlier in the week. Other prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers' Association were: Marrows. —18s a sack. Silver Beet.—4s to 6s a case. Pumpkins.—lSs to 30s a sack. Cabbages. —6s to Ss a sack. Onions. —12s 6d to 17s 6d a sugar bag. Parsnips.—6s to 8s a box. Swedes. —8s to 15s a sugar bag. Spring Onions.—4s to 6s a dozen bunches. Radishes. —2s to 3s a dozen bunches. Lettuce*.—Bs to 15s a case. Celery.—4s to 8s a dozen bunches. Sweet Corn.—3« to 6s a tray. Buttercup Pumpkins.—los to 12s a case. Tomatoes.—9d to Is 9d a pound. Peaches.—los to 16s a case. Plums.—Cooking: 10s to 14s a case. Dessert: 15s to 20s a case. Nectarines.—l6s to 25s a case. Grapes3s 6d to 4s 6d a pound. Passionfruit.—2ss to 27s 6d a case. Chinese Gooseberries.—L’p to 35s a case.
