The Unilever post-graduate research scholarship has been awarded to Mr N. G. von Tunzelmann, of Harakeke street, Riccarton. He will go to Oxford University in October for at least two years’ study of British economic history at Nuffield College. Aged 23, Mr von Tunzelmann is a lecturer in economics at the University of Canterbury. He was educated at Rongotai College and Christchurch Boys’ High School and while at the university was awarded the Bank of New South Wales scholarship. He graduated last year as a master of arts in economics with first-class honours. Mr von Tunzelmann is well known in tramping, mountaineering and ski-ing circles. He is a committee member of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club, a member of the New Zealand Alpine Club, and an instructor for Federated Mountain Clubs. He was a member of the high-level fate rescue squad in last year’s climbing tragedy on Mount Rolleston.
