ANGLICAN ARTICLES

Reassessment Of Rule Book (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, March 24. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have appointed a body to take a new look at the often-criticised rules of the Church of England—the 39 articles of religion. The articles, to which clergy must give public assent when appointed to a parish, are anti-Roman Catholic in tone. They were drawn up after the 16th century reformation. Some see them now as an obstacle to re-union. One says: “The Bishop of Rome has no jurisdiction in this realm of England.” Another says: “The Roman doctrine concerning purgatory, pardons, worshipping and adoration is a fond thing vainly invented.”
