LINWOOD CHURCH

Opening Of Hall Soon

The foundation stone of the new church hall and education centre of the Linwood Methodist Church will be laid by the president of the Methodist Church of New Zealand (the Rev. A. K. Petch), the vice-president (Mr H. W. Beaumont), and the chairman of the North Canterbury synodal district (the Rev. H. C. Matthews), at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 2. The original church hall was built in 1896 for £143 15s. This was added to at least twice. It was dismantled recently by members of the congregation. The new hall, designed by Mr W. Melville Lawry, will be available for both church and community functions. It will be built of brick veneer to match the church, and will include a hall, classrooms, office, lounge, and kitchen. The Rev. H. K. Brown, minister at Linwood, said that the congregation had worked hard for some years to raise the finance required, and would continue to do so to meet loan repayments. Members of the congregation will paint the building.
