School Lunchroom Opened

A lunchroom was opened at the Christchurch Girls’ High School on Wednesday. It was described by the headmistress (Miss P. M. Robinson) as the culmination of several years of dreaming and hard work. The lunchroom is the second storey of a building which contains changing sheds for the swimming baths. The money needed to provide the room was raised by the school’s Parent-Teacher association in just over two years of fund raising, said Mrs L. Cox, one of the two Old Girls’ Association representatives on the school’s board of governors. Professor R. T. Sussex, chairman of the board of governors, thanked all who had raised the money. A refrigerator was presented by Mrs Cox, on behalf of the Old Girls’ Association for use in the lunchroom. The funds for the gift came from the first jubilee gift fund, she said.
