Ruling On Wives

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. New Zealand athletes at future Olympic and Commonwealth Games could be sent home if the presence of their wives is deemed detrimental to their performances. This new power was granted to managers of future Games teams at the executive meeting of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association on Tuesday night. Besides the threat of being sent home, a travel and finance sub-committee report said that it should be made a condition of selection of officials or competitors that wives are not to travel on the same aircraft. The report also said that it was desirable for wives, or husbands, not to be at the games. Although the new conditions were approved in principle, the condition will be recorded to eliminate possibility of loop-holes.
