Title-holder Among 10 Unbeaten Rinks

Ten of the 100 teams entered in the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s Easter fours tournament were unbeaten after the first three rounds were played yesterday.

The successful fours included Dixon (South Brighton), who won last year’s tournament.

The others were: Ditford (R.S.A.), Newton (Dallington), Yugovich (Beckenham), Smee . (United), Hanger (Spreydon), White (Linwood), Weaver (Rakaia), Cogswell (St. Albans) and Bateman (Sydenham). Section play will continue today and on Monday morning. On Monday afternoon and Tuesday post-section play will follow, with the final on Wednesday morning. Many Big Victories

The heavy rain on Thursday evening had slowed down the eight greens used yesterday and the teams more used to these conditions scored heavily. There were some large wins during the day and 30 points or more were not uncommon.

Dixon, one of the most consistent bowlers in Christchurch, had a close match against Dunn (Fendalton) before winning 18-13 in his first game; struggled hard to beat Trenberth (Christchurch), 2220, but was in complete command against Clark (Amberley), to win 31-13. McNab, another prominent bowler in the same section as Dixon, won his firit two matches, but then lost, 12-22, to Adams (Burnside) in the last game of the day. Brilliant Recovery

Ridden (Burnside) provided two of the best finishers of the day in his first two matches. Playing Roberts (R.S.A.) he was 9-20 down but with a fine burst of scoring gained three fours on consecutive ends and then a single on the last end, to win 22-20. In his next match he beat Lulham by gaining a two on with his last shot.

Having lost his two previous games Wallace (United) made some amends when he beat Roberts (R.S.A.), 38-9, to record the highest total of the day’s play. In one fantastic burst of scoring, Wallace’s team recorded 25 points on seven consecutive ends.

Pirrie (Dallington) had a convincing 33-4 win over Forman (Mona Vale) in his first match, was just as impressive beating Muir (S. Brighton), 27-11, but had a tense struggle with Hartmont (St. Albans) before losing 15-16. On the last end Pirrie, trailing by one shot, inadvertently burned the end with his first bowl. As the time limit was

up a rather surprised Pirrie had to acknowledge defeat.
