Evening For Clan Chief

The twenty-seventh chief of the Clan Maclean, Sir Charles Maclean, who is visiting New Zealand as the Chief Commonwealth Scout, was the guest of the Canterbury branch of the Scottish Society of New Zealand on Thursday night The society provided an evening of Scottish songs, music and dances. A special link with his home, Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull, Argyll, was provided by Mrs F. A. Evans, aged 90, who had visited the castle more than 50 years ago when Sir Charles Maclean’s grandfather was Baronet of Duart and Morvern. Among the guests were the Mayor (Mr G- Manning), and Mr J. Matheson, M-P.
