DIDEROTS Nun

French Film Ban Lifted (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, March 24. A French court has lifted a Government ban on a film about a nun who is seduced by her mother superior and raped by a monk. But it was still uncertain whether the film, “La Religieuse” (The Nun) would ever reach cinema screens. It was banned In March last year by the Secretary of State for Information, Mr Yvon Bourges, on the advice of the Film Censorship Board, But although the ban was lifted today, the film still has no licence for public showing and must be resubmitted to the Film Censorship Board. The administrative court lifted the ban because there were “insufficient grounds” for it The film is based on a classic novel by 18th century French writer, Denis Diderot The ban last year caused an outcry among liberals and intellectuals.
