Mount Somers Water Supply

Sir, —As chairman of the Ashburton County Council, Mr Buick should get his facts straight before making a rash statement regarding the water supply the Mount Somers School is obtaining from my property. If Mr Buick cares to call at a pre-arranged time I am prepared to show him the spring he referred to in last Saturday’s paper and he will see that this spring is properly concreted in and fenced to Health Department regulations. No stock can get near that spring, and if this water, after being tested, passes the Health Department conditions, surely Mr Buick would not be so foolish as to argue with the Health Department and the Education Board as well.—Yours, etc., P. VAN DUINEN. Mount Somers, March 20, 1967. [The chairman of the Ashburton County Council (Mr R. E. Buick) would not comment except to say that the statement which appeared In "The Press” on March 18 was correctly reported.]
