LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

(1) Letters sent to the Editor for printing should preferably be typed, otherwise they must be written in ink on one side of the paper only. A legible signature and full address are required whether these are to be published or not. A P.O. box number is not a sufficient address (2) Writers must say clearly whether or not their letters are being or have been sent to other papers. (3) Che Editor cannot return or keep any letter which for any reason is unsuitable for printing; nor can he acknowledge unsuitable letters although this will be done where it seems to be needful, or enter into any correspondence (4) Letters must not be of more than ISO words. Fair Deal.—Correspondence on Rhodesia not now open. Victim.—Too long. See rules above. North-west.—Correspondence on Vietnam closed. Pilgrim.—Religious controversy not acceptable. Sophocles.—You are mistaken. The present powers of the courts are not affected. Speed Limits Sir, —Some months ago, Mr Pickering, M.P., told us the Government had decided to make some 40 m.p.h. restrictions on our roads. The Marshland road is one that does require a lower speed. Our traffic officers are doing a good job keeping a constant watch. I have been told that 55 m.p.h. is allowed in limited speed zones providing the road is clear. Some road-hogs consider it clear all the time. Perhaps the Minister of Transport could tell us when 40 m.p.h. restrictions are going to be introduced.—Yours, etc., B. R. DUNLOP. March 20. 1967. [The Minister of Transport, Mr Gordon, replies: “Consultations will commence within the next few days between my departmental officers and road-controlling authorities with a view to implementing experimental 40-mile-an-hour zones as soon as possible.”]
