ECONOMIC SERVICE
Mr Mars’s New Position Mr G. T. Mars has been appointed to take charge of the Christchurch office of the Economic Service of the Meat and Wool Boards in succession to Mr F. L. Ward, who has now become director of the service. Aged 29, Mr Mars, who is married with one child, has lived in Christchurch for most of his life although he was born in Wanganui. He was educated at St Andrew’s
College and Lincoln College. He was at Lincoln from 1958 to 1960 during which time he gained the diplomas of agriculture and valuation and farm management. Mr Mars joined the Economic Service in 1961 and has been stationed in Christchurch since that time. In the course of his work he has visited annually about 90 farms on the Canterbury plains and in the foothills and in North Otago to collect information for the service’s continuing farm survey. Mr Mars, who has lately been a district officer in the service, said it was hoped that an assistant would shortly be appointed to Christchurch to enable the service to carry out its work with all sections of sheepfarmers as in the past.
