Automatic Vivas
VAUXHALL Vivas are now v available with automatic transmission. The transmission combines a three-speed planetary gear train with a three-element torque converter, giving outstanding- smoothness and flexibility with completely automatic gear-changing, yet leaving the driver very wide control of performance. The unit incorporates a progressive part throttle change-down, which allows the driver a special degree of control over gear-changes. At speeds below about 40 miles an hour, second gear can be selected by pressing the accelerator an amount proportional to the roadspeed—the lower the speed, the smaller the depression needed.
The driver can thus change down in traffic when he chooses, and yet take advantage of the smoothness of the torque converter, which allows top-gear speeds down to five or six m.p.h.
Floor-mounted in a console the selector level offers the customary “L, D, N, R, P” positions, illuminated at night.
