Bowler Has Chance Of Two Titles

J. Dale (Burwood) now has the chance of completing a fine bowls double—the open singles and the champion of champions singles. Dale is one of the quarter-finalists after the first four rounds of the champion of champions singles, played on Saturday. The other quarter-finalists are N. A. McNab (R.S.A.), G. Lancaster (Lincoln), and W. R. Wilkinson (St. Albans). It was a good performance by the consistent Wilkinson, who is also a finalist in the open pairs. K. G. Murray (Opawa), last year’s title-holder, lost his first match to Wilkinson by a decisive 13-25. A former New Zealand singles winner, S. J. Snedden, won his first three matches, but lost to Dale 21-7 in the fourth round. Dale had a close match against S. G. Tonkin (Redcliffs) in the second round, but had a comfortable 25-5 win over G. Johnson (Southbridge), scoring 24 points to 1 over the last 15 ends.
