Death At Gasworks

A man was killed when he was overcome by carbon monoxide gas at the Christchurch Gas Company’s works in Moorhouse avenue yesterday afternoon. He was Murray Pongia, aged 23, single, of 73 Thackeray street, son of Mrs N. Mead, of Otira. Mr Pongia was filling a retort with, coke when he collapsed. He was given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by a fellow worker and a St. John Ambulance driver administered oxygen with a resuscitator. He was found to be dead when taken to the Christchurch Hospital. i !
