PETONE SEAT

Labour Candidate (N.X. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 17. The Petone Labour Representation Committee has chosen Mr Fraser Colman, aged 42, assistant secretary of the Labour Party since 1955, as candidate for the Petone by-election caused by the death of the former Minister of Railways, Mr Michael Moohan. Mr Colman was educated at Horowhenua College and Wellington Technical College. He served an apprenticeship as a boilermaker and was 13 years in the trade. He became a vice-president of the Wellington Boilermakers’ Union.

Mr Colman has been an active member of the Labour Party for 22 years, firs’, in the junior section and later in the Onslow and Petone L.R.C.S.

He was in turn secretary of the Khandallah branch of the Labour Party and vicepresident of the Onslow L.R.C.
