Wool Steady At Auckland Sale

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 17. Values remained substantially unchanged today at the seventh Auckland wool sale of the 1966-67 season.

The Wool Commission was again active and took about 50 per cent of the 25,600 bales in the sale. The lots passed to the commission were mostly fleece and poorer style second-shear. The average price for the sale was about the same as the February figure of 31.86 d per lb. A bin line of 11 bales of good to super Southdown wool brought 541 d, and a bin line of 10 bales of Southdown made 53 |d, but these prices were exceptional. Good length lamb’s wool was in keen demand. Buyers from the Continent were the main bidders, with some support from the United States on second-shear wools, and from Japan on a restricted selection of suitable types. Bradford bought hardly any. The offering, which contained 45 per cent in second-shear and early shorn, full length fleece and 15 per cent lambs’ wool, was not attractive. It was generally off-colour as a result of wet weather.

Farmers In the gallery had hopes that the lowering ot the British bank rate which was announced this morning might influence prices, but brokers said it would be some time before the reduction could have any beneficial effect on the wool market. Range of Prices
