Maoris Want More Say The Maori section of the National Council of Churches was concerned at the lack of Maori representation on seme of the council’s ecumen cal committees, the council’s executive was told when it met recently. The executive suggested that at the annual meeting of the council in Auckland in July Maoris be appointed as local observers. The council agreed to send the president (the Very Rev. M. W. Wilson) and the general secretary (the Rev. 1). M. Taylor) to represent it at the act of union service hi Wellington on May 10. Thin will be the first church union function in which the council will participate. Mr Taylor said that Lieutenant Commissioner Dr. A. Bramwell Cook, previously of Wellington, had been e'ected president of the Aust-alian National Council of Churches in succession to the Archbishop of Melbourne (the Most Rev. F. Woods). Dr. Cook is the first member of the Salvation Army to hold the position. Three new appointment# to the council’s international affairs commission were announced. They are Mr J. W. Rowe, Wellington, director of the institute for Economic Research; the Rev. W. F. Ford, director of Christian education for the Methodist ‘Church in New Zealand; and Professor J. L. Roberts, professor of public administration at Victoria University. They will replace Mr N. S. Woods, the Secretary of Labour, the Rev. E. Simpson and the Rev. J. Thornley.
