FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —An anticyclone is covering much of the Tasman Sea and extends over most of New Zealand. A strong westerly airstream flows over the south of the country. Forecast: Kaikoura coast and Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds mainly north-easterlies on the coasts, but north-westerlies, strong at times, in exposed inland places. Fine weather; warm by day. Central Marlborough.—North-westerlies fresh to strong; fine and warm. Marlborough Sounds.—Strong north-westerlies and partly cloudy; mild weather. Nelson. —Light or moderate variable winds; morning low cloud and fog patches soon clearing, the weather becoming fine and warm during the day. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; rather cloudy skies and a few scattered showers in the south; temperatures moderate. Outlook. —All districts: Cloudy with some showers about and west of the Alps, but mainly fine in the east.
