TASMAN PULP

Effect Of Rising Costs (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 12. The Tasman Pulp and Paper Company, Ltd., will be hard pressed to counter fully the effect of increased wages, freight charges, and other costs, its chairman, Mr J. C. Fletcher, told the annual meeting today. This was in spite of operating efficiencies resuiting in higher output. The Company’s newsprint price in Australia had been increased from January 1, restoring the level of 1961, but was still well below the prices ruling between 1955 and 1960. I nip >rices last year were lower than in 1965 and there was little chance of improvement in the immediate future.

World pulp prices could well decline further before the end of the year. The timber market was quite firm now, but it was prudent to expect some slackening in demand.
