RACING Serena Should Test High Glee Today

High Glee and Serena, two of the top sprinters at the Wellington Gup meeting in January, will meet over six furlongs in the £l5OO Railway Handicap at Trentham today.

High Glee’s record-breaking run of 1.8 for six furlongs in winning the City Handicap on the final day was one of the highlights of the meeting.

She has since won at Rotorua, and will probably be favourite today, but she may not find it easy to justify that position if Serena is right in form.

Serena and High Glee met In the Telegraph Handicap, six furlongs, on the first day of the Wellington meeting, and were two of the three dominating figures in a tight finish. Serena finished brilliantly under 7min 2 Msec, and won by a neck from Captain’s Command, which nosed out High Glee (8.0). Serena will meet High Glee nearly half a stone better this

time and the higher scale should suit her more than her Waikato rival. Serena was a creditable eighth in the Adams Mile the day of High Glee’s recordbreaking run in the City Handicap.

Aquarelle, winner of the Fitzherbert Handicap at odds of 80 to one on Wellington Cup day, and Ima Martian, an impressive winner at Wanganui two starts back, will probably dispute favouritism for the Plunket Nursery Handicap. Aquarelle was impressive in her gallop at Trentham on Thursday and if she wins today she will have fashioned a short but impressive record on the course—two wins and a third from as many starts. Marine and Golden Bay,

, whose combined efforts accounted for the three highweights at the Wellington Cup meeting, will meet in the Ngaio High-weight today. This race will take on added interest because it is the first leg of the club’s first oncourse concession double.

Betting will probably be well spread, but Golden 1 Guy, a four-year-old from Pukekohe, may have the biggest following after a decisive win on his home course last week. Final Court looked much above the average in winning first time out by five lengths over seven furlongs at Hawera, and with R. J. Skelton up he is almost certain to start a firm favourite in the Tinakori Handicap, second leg of the course double.
