Assaulted Constable

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 10. An 18-year-old industrial engineer was fined a total of £2 r today on charges arising from incidents during Air Vice-Marshal Ky’s visit to Auckland on January 24 and 25. He Is Patrick Barney Sheerin, who appeared before Mr C. E. H. Pledger, S.M., for sentence on a charge of assaulting a police constable and a further charge of behaving in a disorderly manner in Albert street. He was fined £l5 on the assault charge and £lO on the other.

The Magistrate said he accepted that Sheerin did not realise that the person he struck at was a constable, consequently there was no element of intent.'
