It is hereby notified that a Commission of Inquiry has been appointed to Inquire into and report upon the disaster which occurred at the Strongman Coal Mine on Thursday, January 19, 1967, and matters incidental thereto, viz:— (a) The cause of the disaster in the Strongman State Coal Mine on the 19th day of January, 1967. (b) The nature and character of the working and the efficiency of the management of the. mine. (c) The efficiency of the inspection of the mine by all or any of the persons who are responsible for that inspection. (d) Suggestions for the prevention, as far as possbile, of similar disasters and for the safe working of this and other mines in the future. The Commission will open the Inquiry at a public hearing at the Courthouse, Greymouth, during the week April 10-14, 1967, commencing at 10 a.m., on Monday, April 10, 1967. All persons desiring to give evidence are requested to communicate in writing with the undersigned, c/o. Strongman Mine Commission, P.O. Box 6342, Wellington, as soon as possible. In order to facilitate the work of the Commission it is desired that written statements be submitted with 12 copies where possible. These statements may be supplemented by oral evidence if desired.
