HAAST PASS

Possible Delays (From Our Own lieporter) GREYMOUTH, Mar. 10. All main West Coast highways were opened this afternoon but Ministry of Works officials warned motorists travelling on the Haast Pass route to take extreme care and to expect some delays. Heavy rain began to fall In the Haast area again this afternoon, and the weather forecast for the week-end is not for any early improvement.

This morning, the Otire Gorge route to Canterbury was closed for a period through flooding in Turiwhate and Grahams creek. The road was scoured out at two bridge sites, and the creeks had to be diverted back to their normal course. The road was reopened at one o'clock this afternoon.

In South Westland, continued heavy rain threatened the highway at Papakeri, between Jacobs river and Bruce Bay road.
